The Schizo Fanzine Philippines Compilation are released

Schizo Fanzine's compilation for the Philippines/Syria compilation forming part of the over all project between Ungovernable Resistance DIY Radio, Schizo Fanzine, Insetus Zine, & Two Beers Or Not Two Beers Records.

Ungovernable Resistance started this compilation during the late summer of 2013 aiming to raise awareness & support for refugees in Syria, and people suffering in the Philippines who lost everything in the earthquake.

This is a charity compilation to raise funds for victims of the Philippines earthquake & Syrian refugees so any donations are sent to the UK Doctors Without Borders Pay Pal email which is help@justgiving.net.

Schizo 10 Compilation

I will celebrate Schizo Fanzine #10 with a compilation. It will be bands who've been interviewed in Schizo Fanzine 1-10. And it will be a fantastic compilation with a good mix of genres.It will be a total of 20 bands/tracks. Follow the work here: http://schizofanzine.blogspot.se/p/schizo.html

Is it even possible for a new released album to be on of the most important album for Swedish punk through the years? Yes it is! This double LP is like a documentation of the Swedish punk in the 90's. Mikael Sörling wrote demo reviews in his column "Sörlings Svinstia" in the big rock magazine Close-up. The 44 tracks on this compilation belongs to the best from his reviews. I will not review each and every band, but I will write about a bunch of them. 

The opening band is Svintask with their song "Rage against new age", a song that sounds like the lovely Blitz song "Razors in the night", and that's a good reason to like Svintask. One of the best track all over this compilation must be Nervös Reaktion and their song "Discotönt", it's some kind of KBD-punk, it sounds so much like the first wave of punk. Victims is one the best bands in the hardcore genre and I like that their song "This fear" are so distinct.

Pass Out is my old band, and I feel honored to be on this fantastic compilation.  Wildcat Strike are probably the only real  streetpunk band, and I love their "Save the whiskey for the boot boys". Chaotic Disorder kängpunk are a bit mixed up with grind/one beat, and the song "Krossa staten" is short and soaked of the lovely 90's. Yes, it's fun that Heffa Klump participate on this compilation, if you didn't know is Heffa Klump the band we call Randy today. It's cool to hear them with Swedish lyrics. Total Assbreakers also have that classic 90's kängsound (not so strange since all the bands hails from the 90's) and I really like their song "Snutas".

Well, there is one more streetpunk band than Wildcat Strike, and that is The Mockingbirds, and "No one is innocent" is a good song to have in the background while you're drinking beer. Kontrovers is probably the best hardcore/crust band, really heavy and brutal. Moralens Väktare would probably give their left hand if they could be Räserbajs for one day but they are far from that class, but this is a typical song for the Swedish 90's punk, a genre we call Trallpunk. Absolute Bastards is the last band that make impression on me, really good crust/grind. GOOD WORK Sörling!

Gaz from Ungovernable Resistance has decided to make a digital compilation which will benefit the people in The Philippine Islands. There will be a bunch of different volumes and Schizo Distro/Fanzine will put together one of the volumes. It will be punk bands from all over the world and all kind of punk genres.

This compilation serie are amazing as usual. The standard of Swedish bands really makes me proud. The 16 bands creates a good mix of genres. One of the best band is Utanförskapet who sounds much like Uncurbed, I can really recommend to buy their LP from Rawby records or Fight back records. Dobermann Cult is a band that I've just heard of but never listen to, I wonder why because their hardcore is fucking excellent. If you are into Swedish punkrock this compilation will offer you a bunch of good bands like: Ligisterna, Knivderby and Psykbryt. One of the best band on the compilation is The Sweetshow who play some kind of punk/psychobilly with female vocals. Alison Blaire is another good band with female vocals as well, their Ramones influenced punkrock really appeal to me. I have to mention Planet Trash, a good old band that still knows how to make it. Well, the best bands in my opinion is: Utanförskapet, Kaos kris & Helvete and Lysande Utsikter which contribute with 2 tracks, I love the (female) vocals and the dirty punkrock. The worst band is Pusrad, just a pity that they contribute with 5 tracks, the good thing is that these tracks are very short. Söderberg makes a perfectly ok cover of the old Ebba Grön song "Vad ska du bli". All in all is it a good compilation, maybe not the best in the serie but in the other hand does some of the bands belong to the best bands in the serie.

New release: Schizo Punk Comp. Vol.1

Schizo Punk Compilation Vol.1 are now available on Spotify. There is 22 tracks/bands from 13 different countries. And it's a multi punk genre compilation. You will get everything from hardcore crossover to grind and streetpunk. 

If you like this compilation or if you like any bands, there is possible to download the tracks from Spotify for a small fee. This project is focused on the digital Spotify version, but in July will it be possible to get copys from the bands, and maybe from Schizo Distro. I will send the music and coverart + insert to the bands so they can make their own copys, and it's up to every band how much they want to charge for a copy. But I guess that everyone who's gonna sell this CD will sell it pretty cheap. 

My intention is to release Vol.2 in October. If there is any bands out there who wanna participate, send an email to schizodistro@gmail.com and we'll sort things out. What I need for that (later on) is one of your tracks (preferably a wav.file), your logo and then is it up to you if you can donate just a few $ £ €... since it costs for me to upload on Spotify. All profits will go to charity.

Review: We are back Vol. 3-4

Here's Vol. 3 and 4 from the We are back compilation released by Ungovernable Resistance.

Vol. 3

Total Agression, sounds very much like Disfear and all other good crust bands with the same style. Bring to ruin, another good crust band but much darker than Total Agression for an example. Triangle Fire and Power is poison are pretty similar with a mix of good punk and hardcore. The Bristles from Sweden is good as always with their hard punkrock. Oiz II Men just gets better and better for everytime. Devastation is another hardhitting punkrock band. Damn, this volume is the best so far. Almost every of the 20 bands/tracks is good.

Vol. 4

If volume 3 was best so far... it's not easy to beat the line-up on this volume which start with Burnt Cross, Power is poison and Abhorrent System. And oh, my old band Pass Out is on this volume as well. I think we, Illegal Action and Devastation is the most punkrockiest bands on this volume. There is a bunch of harder bands too, like grindbeating Gerk, Noituus and Spreading Evictions.

I will not review every band, I write about my favorites from each volume. Here is the first 2.

We are back 1.
Brutal Regime reminds a bit of MDC and the vocals almost sounds like Motorhead-Lemmy. Defcon Zero it's all about great furious hardcorepunk. Nazis shouldn't drive, the music sounds like old Bad Religion. Flowers of flesh and blood play old school hardcore punk, they are good but I don't really like the vocals. Short Bus Window Lickers, angry punkrock between Discharge and GBH. Noise Complaint, old school us-hc. Piss On Authority, a mix between classic swedish crust and hardcore

We are back 2. 

T.D.R.S is classic anarchopunk from the UK, not bad at all. Social Schism have an old school punk hardcore sound, I like them a lot. Sickpig, angry political punk from the UK male/female vocals. Sufferinfuck, noisy grindcrust. Weelchair x 4, raw, fast and brutal hardcore, fucking excellent. Wind of genocide, this is really good and dark crust. Shithouse play really angry hardcore/crust.

Review: Turist i tillvaron Vol.3

Yet another compilation from Turist i Tillvaron are now released. The different genres are significant for this compilation collection. I find both old and new acquaintances. The Negatives who've belong to one of my favorite bands for a long time give me strong pogo feelings with their brilliant punkrock. Hyrda Knektar, another punkrock band, but with more pop feelings than The Negatives suprise me in a positive way. Uppgång & Fall have that classic swedish 80.s punkpop sound and the female/male vocals make it really good. Vervain, who use to be a good band isn't good this time, I think they have to decide how they wanna sound, it's the vocals who disturb me most it just doesn't sound good. The crust/hardcore bands on this volume is the mediocre Total Aggression, the good Träshers and another good band Livet som insats who play really raw and fast kängcore. Just like Uppgång & Fall have Vånna Inget that old punkpop sound, and I think it's allt the bands from that genre I like most from the Turist i tillvaron compilations. I didn't realize how good Vånna Inget really are, I wanted more and found more on Spotify, I have to buy their records when I get more money. Antipati is the last band on this volume, and if you've read all reviews in this issue do you already know how much I like them.

Interview: Really Fast Records

Ohoy! I guess you've heard about the Really Fast compilation LP's? It's one of the most important releases in the entire punk history, and the swedish scene in particular. Bands like Mob 47, Nasum, Asta Kask, Disfear, Strebers, EATER, Refused, G-Anx have participated. I sent a bunch of questions to Staffan, one of the guys behind Really Fast. Here's a part from the interview, the full interview will be published in Schizo Fanzine #8. 

1. Hey Staffan, you’ve been involved to the DIY-scene since the beginning of 1980. If you look back, what’s the biggest differences between the past and the present? And is there anything you regret or just wish you could’ve done better when it comes to Really Fast? And of course, you wasn’t alone with the R.F work, tell me about the other guys?

Well, looking back can be both easy and hard depending on your view on things. One might forget the small details that also made a difference when trying to summarize a period of your life, but here goes: Whether it just came to be a result of personality, young age, shortage of money, hostile environment, lack of experience or just a mishmash of random opportunity I'd say we had to find more solutions for ourselves back in those days. It made you look for creative solutions instead of just buying what was around and already accepted.

We would have our imagination run amok just trying to make things happen and finding ways in any direction we thought we could find an adventure. At the same time, a lot of uniform behaviour would rear its ugly head and some gigs or places were just not so well treated by people I would have expected better from. Everything seems better organized these days, but some of the DIY charm seems lost in the process. I don't like to dwell upon regrets although I've had my fair share of them. I just wish I could have done more back in the day, but that's a good incentive to keep doing things. Future now. Yeah, and in the beginning I was just so lucky to be starting up a label with my older friends Peter and Patrik in Mjölby. They both played in Nasty Boys and were a huge inspiration and fuel for fire for me back in those days.

Patrik and me have kept Really Fast going for better or for worse and we kinda get into a good rut when we get things done for Really Fast. There wouldn't have been any Really Fast Records if Patrik hadn't been around, I'll tell you that.

2. Your last release was an EP with Second Thought around 2003 (?) Are Really Fast still active and do you have any futureplans? Which band would be the dream to release?

Yeah, we've been doing other things for many years now but last year saw a new Really Fast release in the form of Spotlicks debut EP (co-release with Mög Records). We are planning more releases during 2012 but I'd rather make them happen before talking too much about them. I will say this though, that I do regret us not relasing Vol.11 as we had it all compiled and ready to go years ago. It would have been great to document those bands aswell as they deserved it and had a lot to offer then, now and in the future to come. As for dreams there are just too many bands I would like to release, it's frustrating just to think of it. We had several ep's planned that I still wish we can put out someday, sorry to everyone involved for the wait and poor result so far.

3. If you have to collect bands, for a compilation, that exists today, who would you choose then?
Oh, I think I would have to go for bands that kick my butt live! There are so many bands around but it would be great to pick up bands from smaller places like when we started. I would rather have bands that actually exist and get their noise out on the road than bands that just record. A lot of energy would be required aswell.

Vol.1 was still hot when Sörling released Vol.2 with 16 more bands. And the standard are high on this volume as well. This is a true proof of swedish punks greatness. Even if I think that Vol.1 is better is there a lot of fantastic bands. One of them is the crust/hc band Brottskod 11. Another good band is The Baboon Show who play a very obstinate kind of punkrock. And for the variation can we find Oi! influenced Vindicate This!, Fru Dörr - a band that could have participated on the classic compilation Varning för punk! and not to forget the fucking raw Insidious Process who I like very much. Kaffekatt and Thurneman are two distinctive hardcore bands, I like them a lot. Trubbel and Tomma Händer play swedish punk not too far from bands like Asta Kask and Troublemakers and so does Mimikry as well who is this volumes veterans. The only band I don't like is Headons, but what the fuck, that's just one song. If you want this LP, send a mail to the email above or get in touch with any of the bands I've mention.

Review: Out of cage Compilation

Here's a free compilation from Birds Out Records. And the main content is a mix between brutal hardcore and grind. The only band I've heard of before is Weelchair X4. The first band that really open up my eyes is Hoy Pinoy, their kind of grindcore satisfiy me very much. Another band that I like is Horrors that you've seen who play more crust influenced hardcore. I think this compilation can be something for people who like grind but also people who like deathmetal, just listen to Human Cull and you'll understand. The whole compilation is just like a big greyzone, I don't know if I will categorize it as a punk, grind, hardcore or metal comp. So fuck genres, this is brutal music for brutal people. And it's free, so don't hesitate for fuck sake. The last track is a pretty famous cover, Bite it you scum...
