Review: Agent Bulldogg

One of the best Swedish punkband are back. This 7" was released in spring 2013. And I must say that some songs of this 4 tracks EP belongs to their best ever. Just listen to the structure in the vers before the chrous in "Vi är tillbaks..." it's amazing, and then comes the chrous and blow your brain out. The Perssons Pack cover "Det liv jag älskar" really fits to Agent Bulldogg and everything Oi! stands for. This is a DIY-release and that will always give some extra bonus points in my book. There is one thing that bother me, but it might be some wrong with my record player, it sounds like it spins too fast which disturbs the sound, in particular the vocals. But I hope it's just my player who spin too fast. My favorite track on this 7" is "Den jag är", which is an amazing punk/Oi! song, it's only Agent Bulddogg who manage to do this.

The french bastards still have the best Oi! bands in the world. What I like is that they have a soft sound. It's more like Vanilla Muffins than any of the harder bands. UVPR are probably the strongest label in Europe when it comes to Oi!, I haven't heard one single bad record released by them. This split contains of 4 songs, 2 each, and Headliners is one of the best existing Oi! bands with their "Sugar Oi!". Protokids are almost in the same genre but have more rock n roll feelings. I don't have much more to say, this is a really good split. 

Festival: Dead Rhythm #1

Dead Rhythm is a new punk festival which will be arranged in Västerås in the end of  September, Friday 27th and Saturday 28th. The line-up is fantastic with bands from all over Sweden and from all different genres... crust/street/Oi!... This is an interview with Ronny, who arrange the fest. I think they need as much PR as possible and I hope this will be a recurrent festival.

1. Hey Ronny, please tell me about Dead Rythm. How did you came up with the idea for this fest? It is a really good line-up, and a fantastic genre mix. What was your intention when you start to book bands?

Hey and thanks for this interview!

I had the idea for a while,because I'm so tired of leaving town every week to go to gigs, With this fest I will have the chance to watch great music in my hometown!Cause that's a thing that never happens. The other idea with my fest is the mixed genres from oi to käng!Cause usually it's all centered to one or two kinds of punk.I will think I did a pretty good job there!

2. This fest will be in Västerås. How many tickets have you sold and how many tickets are you aloud to sale? How does it use to be in Västerås when it comes to live gigs, much audience or is it a cold city?

I actually sold this fest out, So it went much better than I thought! I had 120 tickets to each day and it's all gone, But most of the tickets have been bought of people from other cities in Sweden (from Piteå to Malmö) so thats great fun!

Västerås is a very hard and strange town to arrange gigs in, cause you never know how it will be. Are the people coming, or are they home jerking off? Most of the times it seems that people prefer there dicks and clits, before listen to music! Some of the gigs are almost sold out and the next time nobody shows upp (on gigs with better bands) and you dont understand nothing. But at my last gig with Dissober and Smalltown we had over 110 people there so I hope we are on a upgoing spiral!

3. Will there be any distros or other merch for sale?

Yeah hard and smart is coming with their distro, Skrammel is also showing up on Saturday! Then every band has their own merch/records ofcourse! I will sell Dead Rhythm Fest shirts and bags!

4. Do you think this fest will be back next year as well?

Yeah the date is already set to 4-5:th April and I will present the first bands on DR#1 .5 bands is already at the lineup and this time we have a band from england . So it's gonna be interesting! I hope to do this 2 times one on the spring and one to celebrate the fall!

5. Please, tell me more about Dead Rythm, do you arrange club gigs as well? Are you alone with the work or do you have any help from other people?

Yeah I do club gigs also(next is 12;th october with Reidar from Antipati and Jonas from Gatans Lag doing an acoustic set) then I will try do at least one gig every month! Have some fine upcoming shows I hope to announce in the upcoming weeks! I used to do this club a few years back on a legendary pub called Taj Mahal here in town, but it went bankrubt so I took a pause for a few years, but started again in September last year! Yeah I arrange everything by myself, but I had help from friends printing posters,giving me a ride, but most of the things I do by myself!(easier with no one to argue with)

6. What do you think about the Västerås punk scene? Any bands you wanna recommend?

In Västerås we have a lot of bands but few places to play, So I guess we have a very good scene if you only concentrate on the bands. We have the two comebacking bands Bombshell Rocks and Dissober, both bands is going to play a few shows this year and Bombshell is going to release 2 new songs! Otherwise we have Angers Curse who been around for a couple of years now and I think they got their real break this year with a shitload of gigs everywhere!

And ofcourse we have Slaktrens,Suffer The Pain, Bombs Of Hades(metal but very punk)

7. Is it possible to buy alcohol at the venue?

Well Ofcourse, I don't know the last time I was on a sober gig ,I think music and alcohol is the best mix ever! On this fest its arranged like a private party so the beer will be cheap and cold! And the Liqor will be strong and violent! I actually had a brewery making a Dead Rhythm Ipa so I'm psyched about that!

Missa inte den här spelningen. Klassiska Gula Villan bjuder upp till punkrock. Stället blir bara bättre ju mer folk som kommer, så bege er ut till Haninge den 2 Februari. Tyvärr tycker jag själv att priset ligger lite högt, men det kommer bli mycket punk för pengarna.

Review: Antipati - Quattro Stagioni + Extra allt

This must be the perfect streetpunk album without no doubts. They are flirting pretty much with Agent Bulldogg, but copycats? No way! Antipati have their own sound. This album are infact almost like an Antipati-compilation where 4 tracks comes from the 7" Quattro Stagioni which was released by Kjell Hell. 3 tracks is from the split with Last Rough Cause and 1 track will appear on Turist i Tillvaron Vol.3. I fucking love how Antipati have written the tracks to Quattro Stagioni, when the music reflects the lyrics, where the summer and spring lyrics are in major keys and autumn and winter in minor key. This album, from the cover to the music, is so deliberated. Forget the past, Antipati is the future. Their punkrock hits me straight from the beginning to the end. And I have to admit that I drank my first beer since New years eve today (end of february) after I'd listen to this album. You will get 8 tracks/26 minutes of pure punkrock joy. And Antipati really show how to make a top class production but still have the sound of punkrock. I have praised the french Oi! scene, but hell knows if this isn't better.

Review: Saturdays Heroes

The young members in this band really start to sound mature. But since I can be a bit conservative will I just give Saturdays Heroes a warning, watch out for too good productions and watch out to fall into the american streetpunk syndrome. That's my opinion, but it seems like I am pretty alone to hate bands like Dropkick Murphys, US Bombs and Street Dogs, so don't listen to me. Well, one of these three tracks is a cover by DKM (Get up), and it almost sounds just like DKM. I don't like that, I prefer when bands record covers with their own style. But I will not complain more, Saturdays Heroes is a fucking good band, they belong to one of the best streetpunkbands in Sweden. So my warnings is just because I am worried to lose this band into a boring genre where all bands have the same sound - the fucked up american streetpunk wave anno 2009. Try to embrace more from the UK Oi! scene and I will be 100% satisfied. Because you really has the makings of a fantastic band.

Review: Pretty Shitty Kjell DVD 2011

Pretty Shitty Kjell arranged a 2 day-gig 2011 with 8 of the best bands in the Oi!/Street/Punkrock genre. And this DVD give you 26 songs extremely good sound quality and 3 different camera angles. I can really strong recommend this DVD for all fans of basic but fantastic punkrock. Here's a brief summary from every band who played, and I promise, the line-up is fantastic.

The first band out is The Clichés from Norrköping, Sweden. Their 3 tracks is really what skinhead rock n roll are about. I hadn't realized before now how good they really are. Tracks: Monkey see monkey do. Two-faced stupid cunts & Skinhead II.

The best situation on this DVD must be when Thomas Botos from Agent Bulldogg enter the stage and take his first tunes. This classic band has almost been totally fucked by rumours... BUT! it's the best Oi! band ever in my eyes. I think Botos is the only original member at the time of the gig, the rest of the band are members from Antipati, except the bass player which I don't know if he's an original member. Tracks: Staden Vaknar. Mitt liv, mitt val & Livsstil.

3.rd band out are Evil Conduct from Holland. A pretty nice band, but the lyrics is so filled with clichés, especially their first song Voice of Oi!. Their other tracks is: Home sweet home & Skinhead 'till I die

Micky Fitz and his The Business are nothing else than pure joy. Fuck, I wanna see the entire gig, but I can't do anything else than just put their 4 tracks on repeat. They get up on the stage and blow everything away with: Harry May. Real Enemy. Suburban Rebels. Drinking and driving. The people in the pit seems like they are in heaven. I will always love The Business and the singalong at Drinking and Driving are amazing. 



 Antipati belongs to the top of the league in the swedish punkrock scene. I wrote it in a review in an earlier issue of Schizo Fanzine that Antipati doesn't have that skinhead macho style, and I like them for that. It's rock n roll and punk in a great symbiosis. Tracks: Clockwork organge horror show. Punk på Berns. Grabbarna. The Punk på Berns lyrics must be the best modern punk lyrics.

Clockwork Crew must be the swedish band that have most UK-sound in their music and vocals, it actually remains me of The Business. I like their energy and their straight-on fuck-you attitude. Two of the members are also playing in The Clichés. Tracks: Taking it back. United Skins. & Smack, Smack.

Next band out is Major Accident, and they make it well but I have never been a big fan of them, even if they are a good band. But I don't know, other bands have probably caught my ears more. Tracks: (Standing on the) Sidelines. Fight to win. Step by step.

And yeah, Angelic Upstarts belongs to one of those bands that I took straight to my heart with a big bang. And it's fun to see them on this DVD, 4 tracks and so much joy. Please someone, gimmie their full gig now. Just the sight of Mensi make me glad. Their 4 tracks: 2.000.000 voices. Safe Haven. You're nicked. Solidarity.


So, wasn't that a fucking fantastic line-up? The coverart, layout and everything on this DVD hold 100% high standard. A booklet with info/interviews with all the bands will be enclosed. And I can just say that this 85 minutes production is superb.
